Monocentropus balfouri comes from the island of Socotra, the largest island in an archipelago extending off the horn of Africa. Although geographically an extension of Africa, politically these islands are part of Yemen. M. balfouri is well known in the hobby, and is among the most commonly kept African species. Keeping requirements are as for African baboon tarantulas in general, with most hobbyists keeping them on the dry side with access to water.
M. balfouri is unusual in that the species can be kept peaceably in groups. See bulk pricing for quantity five.
