From Peru comes Thrixopelma ockerti. When it was described (1994) a new genus was created for it, making T. ockerti the type species for Thrixopelma. T. ockerti is a medium-sized tarantula with a good appetite and moderately fast growth rate, about 2 years to sexual maturity. Coloration is an attractive, difficult-to-describe shade of blue with a reddish rump.
