Female juvenile Brachypelma hamorii (Mexican red-knee tarantula) for sale, captive bred. A medium-size tarantula with color, hardiness and longevity in its favor. Temperament is good, but caution, it will flick hairs readily and even bite if provoked.

One of the oldest hobby staples, kept since the late 1900s, the popularity of Brachypelma hamorii (ex. smithi) is undiminished. An inhabitant of dry, forested terrain in Mexico, growth in captivity is slow but steady. Drought tolerance is high. Females mature sexually in 3-5 years or more depending on temperature and food availability, with incremental gains to 5+” in subsequent yearly molts. The life span of captive females may exceed 25 years.
B. hamorii are hardy and fairly docile as tarantulas go, but as with all tarantulas, holding is not recommended. They’ll flick hairs if irritated and dropping your pet can damage internal organs. As with all tarantulas, B. hamorii can also bite. In captivity, they tend not to dig, making use of a hide if provided. Almost always fully or partly seen, feeding is readily confirmed and health checks are easy.
