Description

Pamphobeteus sp. “Duran” is a medium-large, undescribed terrestrial from coastal Ecuador. Females are shades of brown, depending on instar and stage in the molt cycle, with reddish purple femur iridescence. Males share this color pattern and show extensive bright purple after the ultimate molt, a trademark of the genus. The carapace of P. sp. “Duran” shows a metallic starburst pattern reminiscent of that seen in Xenesthis.

Spiderlings and juveniles have the x-mas tree pattern on their abdomens, characteristic of many but not all Pamphobeteus.

The photo above shows a young male (semi-adult), the specimen for sale.
