Aphonopelma anax (Texas tan tarantula) from southeastern Texas/northern Mexico, captive bred, about a year old. Sizes are larger than we usually offer. Slow growth to a medium-size tarantula with longevity and fair disposition in its favor.

Native to semi-arid, southeastern Texas and northern Mexico, Aphonopelma anax is a species with broad appeal. Calm disposition and hardiness likely contribute to its popularity. They live in burrows among grasses and shrubs. In late summer, mating season begins. It is common to see scores of roaming mature males at this time, one of which is likely shown in the photo above. Females reach 5″ or so and live over two decades. Spiderlings in this batch were raised beyond the more challenging 1/4″ they were upon arrival.
