Possibly the most well-known Asian tarantula species in the hobby, Cyriopagopus lividus (ex. Haplopelma lividum) is an obligate burrower. It constructs a distinctive, volcano-shaped mound of substrate at the entrance, where prey are often taken. Freshly molted specimens show shades of blue (colbalt blue in its original description). C. lividus is native to Myanmar (fmr. Burma) and neighboring Thailand.
As an Old World tarantula, a bite from C. lividus is likely to be medically significant. Study Old World tarantulas before buying and take proper precautions.
