Three countries comprise the Malay peninsula: southern Thailand, southern Myanmar and peninsular Malaysia. Ornithoctonus aureotibialis is a terrestrial burrower from the Malay peninsula. Freshly molted specimens show orange-yellow hairs line the undersides of patellar and tibial leg segments, as well as to varying degrees along the carapace perimeter. Femurs are non-reflective, jet black. Development of several species is interesting to follow as one observes slight variations in color from one individual to the next, especially in juvenile stages. Females reach 5″. Affordable, voracious, and hardy in captivity, O. aureotibialis is an excellent choice for those new to keeping southeast Asian terrestrials. No handling, keep fingers away, likely medically significant venom.
